Plastic Planting

What a beautiful Sunday!

Today we celebrate the accomplishments of our week. We started planting ‘bare ground’ on Tuesday and then Friday night and Saturday we planted our ‘plastic’ ground.

This process is slow! The tractor drives a whopping 2 MPH so it took Tom and Thomas 12 hours to plant this 11.9 acre field!

As you watch this video, you will see that the 2 row planter is operated by timing and singulating the seed through a spoked wheel which pokes a hole through the plastic and deposits a seed in the ground. That seed then germinates and grows through the hole to the light. Sometimes however, the young plant diverts and nestles under the plastic and must be gently pulled through! More on that in the coming weeks
