A SNYDER’S DOZEN THANKS

Thanks for a ‘corn-tastic’ 2019 sweet corn season! Our harvest is now complete and the last Dozens will soon be consumed and we wanted to take this time to express our overwhelming appreciation to you, our customers! We LOVE what we do and who we do it for! Thanks for all the cobs you purchased this season…we hope you’ve enjoyed them as much as we did! Thank you also for your awesome feedback and encouragement during another interesting opening day and all season long! You make us better ? We also LOVE and appreciate the people we do this crazy thing called ‘corn’ with! To all of our Corny Crew…our ‘Summer Snyders’….your efforts and representation of our family farm was amazing and we could not have done it without you!!! You were a pleasure to work alongside and we wish you much success in the coming year ahead!! To our children…our favourite Snyders 1/2 Dozen…each of you helped us in such immeasurable ways whether here or from abroad. Thank you for your loving support and helpful hands…especially when we were up to our ears in corn!!Thank you to my Corn King, Tom, who worked tirelessly every day picking, packing, and talking me through the pile of corn that loomed over me ? There’s truly no one else I’d rather do this life alongside!And we are so very thankful to our Lord for His provision…He makes the seeds sprout and grow and gives us the strength, energy and wear-with-all to do what we do! In abundant years and challenging years we thank Him!From all of us to all of you…have an AWESOME year! We look forward to serving you again in just 323 more SLEEPS! Woohoo…now that’s what I’m talking about!

Now that the pollination process is well under way, the plant will be putting all of its energy into growing each kernel! These scrawny looking cobs will grow in length and continue to fill out to become a part of your family’s summer feasts!

We can hardly wait…15 SLEEPS! 

Now this is a welcome sight for Snyder eyes!

And time for a little education…each of these little silks is attached to a kernel of deliciousness! As they pollinate, the silk will be released and begin to dry down. That’s why corn has brown silks on top at harvest and one of the ways we know it’s ready to serve our Awesome customers!

If all goes warm with the weather we will have corn available in 21 SLEEPS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Let the Countdown to Corn begin!

Happy Canada Day to our corn loving community!!

Well unfortunately the crazy spring weather has made predictions at this stage very challenging! Our ‘Countdown to Corn’ will have to wait at least a week to allow the crop to keep growing!

We are doing everything we can to try and shift harvest a bit closer but we are definitely looking at a later start in 2019…sometime late July! Bring on the heat and humidity and we will provide the water…if you can’t sleep neither does the corn!

I’ll start our official countdown 5 SLEEPS before which should give everyone lots of opportunity to get the water boiling!

In the meantime, we hope you all enjoy this awesome day celebrating Canada and all the freedom and opportunity she provides!

There’s a lot going on inside a single stalk of corn!

If you look closely you can see the tassel growing inside and it is surrounded by lots of luscious leaves!

In the next couple of days these stalks will stretch out and open these leaves to allow the plant to take in more sunlight!

It won’t be long now…35 SLEEPS!!!

Today we begin the task of ‘saving the corn’! Each row of Snyder’s Sweet Corn that is planted under the bio-mulch must be walked and checked to make sure these babies are coming through the holes! If any of them are struggling, then we help reposition them so they can continue to thrive!

Loving each kernel…it’s what we do!

These little gems are really trying their best in less than ideal growing conditions! Some of their friends have not handled themselves as well ? Chilly temperatures and lots of rain has made planting a bit more challenging this season. As soon as the fields are fit we will be laying more plastic and planting more Kickoff to help fill the potential gaps! Looking very forward to a warmer forecast in the future!
