WATERING OUR CROP
Our first crop is currently at a critical growth stage! This is when the corn is deciding the cob size that it feels it can support and we want to make sure that it has everything it needs to make a great decision…at least that which is in our control!
Our first crop has yet to have drip irrigation installed…here we use the overhead sprinkler system that requires ALOT of hands on management so as not to damage the tender plants with too much water or being driven over when the cart goes off track!

Thankfully, the areas of our farm fields that host our mid and late season corn crop do have drip installed! Here it’s raining at the roots! As you can see (or shall I say can’t see) we are using subsurface drip irrigation!
The large blue tanks are the massive filtration system that ensures the drip lines don’t fill up with silt or debris. The water is then pumped along each buried line that lays 12”directly under each row of corn with emitters every 24”. We currently have about 70 acres installed with plans to cover all of our acres over the coming years as resources allow!

Subsurface drip irrigation allows us to be better stewards of our precious water resource and water and feed the corn regardless of external conditions during the day or night! This also allows us farmers to get some sleep during the night while still caring for our crop in preparation for the busy days ahead!
